ready to go to kindergarten!

You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Psalm 39:5

I took William to school today and was stuck by how grown up he has become.  After turning to me and saying, “I love you Dad.”  He took his place at the head of the line of his classmates and headed off to class following his teacher.  You see, he is the door holder this week.  The one who holds the door so that the rest of the class can enter the building.  He has a job now… as a student, new friend to many, and the holder of the door.

I watched him walk away and suddenly felt how fleeting the last six years have been.  My son has entered the world and I am not there to protect him.  I am struck this morning by the limited time that we have with our children and how important it will be for me make time with William when he is home.  He still needs guidance, a parent’s wisdom and he needs time with his father.  I pray that our time together will point him to his heavenly father and he will come to know that even when I cannot be with him that his heavenly Father is always there.

The minute I got home, I made time for Isabel.

Time is fleeting.
